Yes we’re green In fact the Stonewall Jackson Hotel has been certified by the Virginia Tourism Corporation as Virginia Green. Virginia Green is a partnership between the Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The program awards Virginia Green Certification to tourism-related business such as hotels, restaurants and attractions taking voluntary actions to reduce harmful impacts on the environment. Our proudest green initiative is our new Rooftop Garden. Together, the Stonewall Jackson staff planted a garden of indigenous Virginia flowers, vegetables and herbs in the recycled plastic and metal food containers from the hotel kitchen. We salvage the water run off from the air conditioning system to water the plants. We use the vegetables and herbs we grow in the kitchen.
